TEACHERS and CHILD-CARE WORKERS
All of our teachers and those who work with children and youth at UUCS undergo state criminal background checks and must meet other requirements as established by the Lifespan Faith Development committees. We are firmly committed to providing the safest atmosphere possible for our children.
COMING OF AGE (COA)
Young people ages 14-15 may also participate in our Coming of Age program, which is offered as needed. This program is designed to provide an environment of support, encouragement, and guidance as our youth make the transition from childhood to adulthood. At the end of this program, they are given the opportunity to become full members of our church.
OUR WHOLE LIVES (OWL)
OWL (Our Whole Lives) is an age-appropriate, comprehensive human sexuality course designed by the Unitarian Universalist Association in cooperation with the United Church of Christ for youth in grades 7-12. It is offered in alternate years.

CHILDREN'S AND YOUTH RE
Children’s Chapel: When the children leave the main worship service after the children’s story time, they gather for a brief worship time together before going to individual classes. Children’s Chapel includes chalice lighting, joys and concerns, an offering, and a short lesson.
Primary Grades (grades K5-2). Spirit Play: Story-based curriculum with Montessori-style exploration activities and questioning that invite children to work through issues without being given “right” answers. For example, “I wonder how the little boy felt when he finally told the truth,” or “I wonder why the mouse helped the lion.”
Upper Elementary (grades 3-5). Toolbox of Faith: Using real tools, older elementary age children discover how their UU faith is helpful to them as they grow, developing a toolbox of faith to use every day, wherever they are.
Middle School (Grades 6-8). This group uses a UUA Curriculum for Middle School youth called Riddle and Mystery. Stories, role play, discussions, questions, and crafts encourage youth to think deeply about the big questions-Who are we? Where are we going? Why are we here?
High School Youth Group. Our young people in 9th-12th grades meet on first-fourth Sunday afternoons from 12:30 to 3:00. Our time together includes lunch, fellowship, and fun time, a chalice lighting ritual, and a lesson. Curricular offerings include lessons from Race to Justice (a UUA multicultural, anti-racism, anti-bias curriculum), a covenant group for youth based on the adult model, and Listening Between the Lines (a study of music as a response to pop culture). One session each month will be for planning/doing service projects. (And
