LIFESPAN FAITH DEVELOPMENT VISION STATEMENT

At the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spartanburg, we envision children, youth and adults who:

     know they are lovable beings of infinite worth;

     know they have inherent powers of the soul;

     understand their responsibility to use their gifts, talents, and potential in
        the service of life.

We envision children, youth and adults who:

      affirm their part in the long, rich heritage of Unitarian Universalism;

      understand, embrace, and live the principles of Unitarian Universalism;

      actively participate in our faith community;

understand their role as compassionate moral agents of positive change,
        capable of making a difference in their own lives and the lives of others;

     challenge existing structures of social and political oppression in the larger
        community, thus seeking justice, equality, and dignity for all.

We envision children, youth and adults who:

     recognize the need for community;

     affirm in word and deed the importance of family, whatever shape that
        family may take;

     recognize and affirm the relationships, connections and interactions which
        exist among all ages;

     understand that conflicts in a faith community do happen and are
        opportunities for finding loving resolutions while enhancing spiritual
        growth.

We envision children, youth and adults who:

   appreciate the value of spiritual practice with a view to deepening faith
        and integrating beliefs and values with everyday living;

     freely explore and question religious and/or moral beliefs, personally
         adapting those ideas according to the individuals value system, logical
         reasoning and moral consciousness;

      experience joy, hope, healing, mystery, and personal transformation.
